Anindo Saha and Jasper Twilt successfully defended their PhD theses

On Monday, Anindo Saha and Jasper J. Twilt both successfully defended their PhD theses in the Aula of the Radboud University. Anindo defended his thesis entitled 'Artificial Intelligence x Prostate Cancer Detection on MRI', while Jasper defended 'Artificial Intelligence and Biparametric MRI in Prostate Cancer Detection: From Benchmarking to Workflow Strategies'.

Their research was embedded within the European Union Horizon 2020: ProCAncer-I project, a consortium of 20 partners investigating AI systems to support the diagnostic pathway of prostate cancer management in clinical practice. Together, Anindo and Jasper contributed to the PI-CAI study, a large-scale international effort in prostate cancer AI that was recently published in The Lancet Oncology.

Their defenses took place just hours apart and followed the jointly organized PI-CAI symposium, 'Artificial Intelligence for Prostate Cancer Diagnosis and Screening on MRI: Current Practice, Evidence Gaps, and the Research Agenda', which brought together leading experts from radiology, urology, epidemiology, and industry to examine the current state of evidence, define priorities for future research, and discuss how AI can be effectively integrated into clinical workflows around prostate cancer detection on MRI.

We congratulate Anindo and Jasper and wish them every success in their future careers!
